Abstract: The purpose of this study is to determine the influence to the growth rate of rattan Calamus caesius and Calamus enrinaceaus seedlings. This study involves 20 seedlings of Calamus caesius and 20 seedling of Calamus enrinaceaus obtain from natural forest in Tuaran, Sabah. There are two kind of light condition, which is under shade and under direct sunlight. The parameter taken in this study is the length of the seedlings leaf stem. Statistical T-test showed that there were significant different between the length min of Calamus caesius and Calamus enrinaceaus that is planted in direct sunlight and under shade. The optimum light conditions for the growth of rattan Calamus caesius and Calamus enrinaceaus is under direct sunlight, however after long period of time it can cause the rattan seedling leaf to look unhealthy. Replanting of these species should be carriued out under protective shade tree.
